In this review of the Modular Evolution’s Bipod and accessory’s I have found some great things. First is their customer service. This review was requested by the members on the forum, so reaching out to a company to get product for a review isn’t always the easiest and some companies are not very receptive. George at Modular Evolution jumped to get his product in the hands of our Editor and Moderator, Daniel (longshot06) Brozovich. He sent us the bipod kit both sets of carbon fiber legs-long and short, the tripod adapter, and a rail to mount to the rifle .
Upon first inspection you notice a great quality built piece with attention to detail. All joints are tight and machined smooth, very well packaged, and easy to get into the field. The first thing that I liked about this bipod was, of course, the Quick Detach. I use a backpack to pack my gun for long distances and it is a chore to get in and out with a conventional bipod mounted. With the Evolution’s, I can just quick pop it off and the Rifle fits in the pack much easier. The next is the swivel lock. It is similar in operation to the Harris but different in mechanics and works very smooth and locks down tight. The legs can be locked at 45 degrees. So, not only do the legs lock parallel to the barrel and at 90 degrees, they can lock midway, both forward and back.
Some manufacturers that make similar products we have tried in the past have small amounts of slack in the mechanism that magnifies to big rifle movement. I took this video to show how well this bipod takes recoil. I performed this on a deck surface to show the ground is not absorbing any felt recoil. Videoed in slow motion so viewers can see the bipod flat doesn’t move even on a large .338 like my Terminator.
I have been using this bipod on several rifles for quite some time now, and to say the least, I have fallen in love with it. I did run across an issue with the legs. They cracked at the top, but this issue was recognized by Evolution before I came across it. George sent out the updated legs quick and got me back in the field. I can’t say enough about how nice it is to work with a company that is out to make the best products available. The great thing about this modular set up is the leg length options. I have several bipods in my safe like I am sure most of you – taller ones for coyote stands where I’ll be sitting up and shorter ones for big rifles to shoot prone. It’s nice to have a one size fits all option and even be able to pack the long set of legs in case they are needed and only weighing 9 oz. They won’t add much to your pack and they change out quickly.
This last weekend I went and spent some time shooting with Dad. For those of you that don’t know him, Broz is about the most critical of bipods as anyone could be. Well, this one passed his test. He was impressed with how solidly built it was, and loved the available spike’s on the end of the legs. By the end of our session, he commented he is wanting to get one as well. This is a true testament to the time and quality Evolution has put into this unit to get Dad’s approval!
I compared the weight of Modular Evolution’s bipod to a Harris 9”-13” SLM, as we are all familiar with these. The Harris with Pod lock weighed 14 3/8oz and Evolution’s weighed exactly one ounce more at 15 3/8. For me, this is not an issue. But if you are concerned with weight savings, I believe you will find the value and versatility of Evolution’s is worth the extra ounce.
The last part of my review was trying out Evolution’s tripod adapter, I have never seen an attachment for a bipod quite like this.
I took it to the range one beautiful evening and got my AR-15 mounted to a tripod with it. First I have to admit when I got the kit and looked up with this part was for, I thought, “well that’s cool but I don’t see myself using it”. Well, I was very wrong. I just can’t believe how solid a guy can be with a tripod on the front. I was actually able to stretch the limits of my AR clear out to 600 yards and shot a ¾ MOA group on steel. Wow! Very impressive Evolution! That’s all I can say! You guys thought of something and it works. I could now see this is a very cool item to use at a dog town and turn your gun into almost a turret from a lawn chair. My biggest problem at dog towns is when you go prone, you can’t see as well. Problem solved here!
So in conclusion, Great job Modular Evolution!! This will be a part of my shooting practice for years to come. I love being able to take one bipod and easily move it from one gun to the next with the quick detach and customize it for that shooting application with the different legs. I also ordered the Spike leg attachment. These are incredible to help dig the gun into the ground and allow for a good bipod pre-load. I can’t wait to set up my lawn chair on some prairie dogs and use the tripod adapter – I better bring lots of ammo. As for other sport shooters and long range enthusiasts out there, make this a “must have” – no more springs that pinch your fingers, no more fighting getting your gun in a back pack or soft case that doesn’t accept a bipod. This is easy to use, solid and no slop in the legs like other brands.
