The guide is up:

300 WSM ONLY

I need your favorite accuracy loads. Please provide:

Bullet weight and Mfg.
Powder and charge in grains
Cartridge OAL, yes OAL (not to the ogive)
Primer
Brass Mfg.
Velocity
Barrel length
Freebore of your chamber
Comments on function, brass life, accuracy, temp stability, and bullet performance on game if you have it(please keep this data driven not emotional). Please note if using coatings on your bullets.

I am going to start working on compiling cartridge guides as I get time. Please only provide well vetted data. No I heard it from a friend who heard it from a friend...

If you want to include some kill photos with your rifle I may try to include a few in the guide.

Seriously if you do not provide everything listed above in this thread IT WILL NOT BE USED. If you just want to talk about your loads start another thread. I need serious data so please make it easier on me to sift through the data. Thanks.

I have a 300 wsm on a rem 700 long action. 26" 1in 9 barrel. I shoot berger 215s loaded long case to bullet ogive length is 2.45. Load data is specific to my rifle being a long action.
Fed match primer
Norma brass
215 hybrid
68.5 grains of rl 26
Shoots 2865fps from magnitospeed.
I hit pressure signs at 71 grains at 3030 fps
But couldnt find a node above 2865 fps
Shot ladder tests at 600 and 1000 yards and both tests showed 28.5 being a node
Gun is a new build has around 100 rounds down the tube will keep updating as I learn more.

The load data burger gave me for rl 26and 215 hybrid was 64 to 67 grains. I went up until pressure witch was at 71 grains my node is at 68.5 grains. 71 grains is crunchy when seating the bullets

I’m two miles in the back country right now but I think my load is 68.6 rl26 at 2940. That’s actually pretty impressive for that little case. My three 300wms were 2890-2950(h1000).

When you get back can you post your h1000 loads. I played with h1000 on a browning x bolt with short mags. case capacity with the bullet half way in the case wasn't enough to get an velocity with h1000 .

I’m not going to test h1000. I’ve tested n565 and rl26. I’ve got some finalizing to do but it looks like 26 will win.

In my Model 70 24”, I can run 68.5 grains of Reloder 26 behind a 215 Berger in Federal brass, 2830 FPS.

I had to back down to 66.3 grains in Norma brass at 2795, but I did develop a carbon ring at some point in this process. If I remember right, my COAL is just over 3” and about .090 jump.

I’ve currently set this gun up for closer range 500 and in type hunting because I’ve got other guns set up better for longer ranges.

It really likes 175 Barnes LRX’s at 3030 in Winchester brass at 2.86 with Reloder 16. When I run the numbers, this load is flatter than the 215 to 1,000 yards, with 1.1 more MOA of wind 10 mph.) it also has significantly less recoil.

I haven’t killed anything with a Barnes bullet, but understand they have a cult following as well as lots of haters.

Just finishing up development on my HCA built Tikka. Looks like here’s going to be the load:
Berger 215
RL26 68.6 grains
Norma Brass
Fed 215M
25.5” Brux 1:9”
2920 FPS
3.185” COAL
Not sure on the Freebore but 3.2” is touching the lands.
I started at 65 and ran up to 70 without any pressure but decided not to run up any higher based on others info.

Hey Ryan, I'm shooting a Tikka action, 24" Hells Canyon Barrel, 1/10 Twist.

Berger 215
RL26 67.4 grains
Norma Brass
Fed 215M
2945 FPS
3.030" COAL
.020" Freebore

Shot this buck bedded hard quarter-to-me (almost straight on) at 803 yards. My intent was to shoot just inside his left shoulder and take out his heart and lungs. I missed my wind call by 1 moa and grazed his left shoulder before the bullet tore up 4 or 5 ribs, went all the way through the off-side hindquarter, and lodged in the hide. My rest was solid and I knew my data and rifle very well but I was arrogant to take that shot at that angle and was lucky it turned out with a dead buck.

Any new loads to add?

I was wondering the same. I’m using H4831sc and developing loads right now for a new build.
Looking like 65.5 gr is a good spot but I’m only seeing 2760 FPS out of a 24” benchmark 1-9.5 twist.
Using Norma brass, CCI 250, and 212 Eld-x.
I’d rather be in the 2850 FPS range, but also shied away from RL26 as I’ve seen some pretty big temp swings when I used it in the past.

I rebarreled my 300 WSM with a 20” Bartlein 5r 1:10 with a SAAMI reamer. My plan was to run 175-195 grain monos, but I have a good pile of 215 Hybrids as well. I’ve been playing with 195 Badlands Bulldozer 2’s and H4350 so far. I found good accuracy and consistency at 2830, I had to guess on charge weights as nobody seemed to have any data, and I’m too hot. Instead of backing down I was thinking of trying RL23, 26, or N565. These Bulldozers are long, and I’m around 2.960 to the lands… not an ideal setup. I thought about trying the 175 Badlands, but it looks like the ballistics will line up with the 195’s around 700-800 yards, so it’s a bit of a tossup. Thoughts?

I think monos should be spun faster for stability and terminal performance, which I presume hunting is the intended purpose. Therefore, the 175 BD2 would be my choice in a 1:10 twist.

Ryan, what was the load you decided on for your Bat Vampire 300 wsm? I watched your vlog about it and it seemed like you ended up running h4350 but I missed the charge weight and seating depth.

That load is 62.0 h4350, 210m, 215berger at 2.455 to the ogive , Norma brass. I have another for 204 vaportrails and another for 185 juggs.

Just fine tuning this load but like what I'm seeing at 600 yards.

Defiance Ruckus
22" Bartlein 1-9 Twist
63.0 grs H4350
1X Fired ADG Brass
CCI BR2
C.O.A.L 3.28 (very long) Barrel was originally throated for 225 ELD's
C.B.O. 2.485 (.040 off)
.003 Neck Tension seems to be working well

Long Action Tikka t3 300wsm in a MDT ESS chassi.
Bullet weight and Mfg: Berger 215 hybrid
Powder and charge in grains: Norma MRP 67.4gr
Cartridge OAL,: 3,263
Jump: 0.010
Primer: fed 215
Brass Mfg: Norma
Velocity: 2875fps
Barrel length: 27" 1:9 Schultz&Larsen single cut
Freebore of your chamber: 0.0784"
Shoots buggholes on 100yrds and sub moa on 1000yrs easily. I am annealing my brass so i get about 8-10 reloads, es & sd in single digits. The data above is taken at 50 fahrenheit ,sea level. Load would be stable up to about 65 f.
Do not hunt with this only target shooting on steel.

~.5 MOA - depends on me (I did shoot a .54 MOA at 500 yards with it, so it's always me)

Incredible killing round in my Savage. Farthest shot on deer is 335 yards, DRT. Normal exit holes then size of a baseball. Had one doe run 100 yards, rolled her over and had half of heart hanging out the exit hole. blood trail looked like a 4 lane highway. Buck this year, same scenario, went about 20 yards, was on a gallop when I shot, 100 yards. Momentum. Have also taken an Oryx several years ago, single shot, but guide made me take a second. Oryx was dead before second shot hit. This is my go to round, even use it on prairie dogs.

~.75 MOA - depends on me

Killed a few pigs with this. Developed it when 215s were scarce. 330lb boar this year, 1 shot, DRT. Last year 150ish lb pig, one shot, DRT. Still under development, might do a smidge more tweaking.

Free Bore - Not sure, will go back and check. Forgot to measure that last night.

I also have load data for 178 SST, JLK 190's and Berger 185 Hunters.

Cartridge: 300 WSM

FL Sized, Cleaned, Trimmed and Deburred

Trim Length 2.100"

C.O.A.L. 2.48"

Primer Fed. 215 Gold Medal Match Magnum

Primer Winchester Large Rifle Magnum

Powder Alliant R-17 Weight: 65.1 Grains

Bullet: Hornady Flat Base Interlock 180 Grain

Rifle is a Ruger #1

Barrel is a Shilen 26" 1:9 twist

Chorograph data = 3121 fps

This is my final work up load for this rifle. I am not able to find any R17 to purchase so I am experimenting with other powders that I can get to see if I can obtain the same ballistics. No luck so far.

Great article Ryan! I have learned not to chase the velocity in my 26" Savage shooting the 215s and 208s. Both have been able to hit steel at 1 mile on a consistent basis. It all comes down to me and my ability. Would never shoot an animal that far, heck my limit is around 500-600 yards and then everything has to be spot on. A really good guide. I'm very pleased with my 2700-2800 velocities as precision is better than I can usually shoot.
