I am going to start working on compiling cartridge guides as I get time. Please only provide well vetted data. No I heard it from a friend who heard it from a friend...

I used to load for a handful of 300 Winnies using the 208 grain Hornady Amax, uncoated. Pretty sure the ELD-M is the same bullet with a different tip. My recipe which I still use in 2 rifles is:

Norma brass
Federal 215M (or regular 215)
H1000 76.0 to 78.0 grains
Hornady 208 Amax
3.600" OAL

I'd typically shoot 1 at 75.0 and 1 at 75.5 grains to check for pressure and get on target. Then shoot groups from 76.0 to 78.0 in 0.4 grain increments. Most guns would shoot under .5 moa with one of those charges.

Can’t remember the freebore but it is similar to the reamer that was posted on this site.
Brass life has been much better than when i used RL26. Have not tested it yet but think i should get quite a few more firings. On my 3rd now and primers seat just as new. Ran the powder charge all the way up to 82 where it started to compress and didn’t see pressure. Powder seems to be very stable and doesn’t show much velocity swing from 20-70 degrees. Bullet performance has been fantastic, just as it’s documented on here by others.

I’ve debated whether or not to post this because I had this nice load then lost it after my barrel sped up. Delete it if you want. I’ve yet to find a good load with the 215 in my barrel since. Been thinking of switching to H1000 to continue my search.

Sorry, I don’t want to take your thread sideways.

Here’s some back story. After finding the load above, my rifle had 100 rounds fired. I then switched to test the 230 gr Atip. The barrel sped up during this testing but I finished that load with 186 total rounds fired. I doubled checked my 215 load to verify and they shot 3119 fps ave with 10 ES but definitely too much pressure.

I backed off the charge 1.5 gr and was getting 3061 fps ave but with pressure signs I didn’t have before. To be sure it wasn’t a carbon ring I cleaned with Boretech C4 and Eliminator, used IOSSO paste and scoped the barrel. I then retested and got 3058 fps with some pressure signs again.

I put this rifle aside to assess. My thoughts are maybe it’s the neck tension or brass. I used 0.001” with Hornady brass before the barrel sped up. After I switched to 0.003” and Norma brass. I can’t believe it’s the brass so I was going to try dropping the neck tension back to 0.001”. I’ve also been thinking about switching to H1000 while I’m at it, thus the comment earlier.

I will have to stew on that. In my experience when I find a velocity node it is good for the life of the barrel. I may have to tweak powder charge to stay there but it will be there.

I decided to drop the Norma brass and prep 50 rounds of Gunwerks brass and set the neck tension to ~0.001”. I think I rediscovered a load for my 300 win. Not 3065 fps as it was before but close. I should drop the charge to get it closer but it looks good so far. No bolt lift and faint if any ejector marks from my Christensen Arms Ridgeline.

My problem must have been with my prep of the 1X Norma brass or neck tension. I’d still like to figure that out.

The bullet exited the opposite shoulder, he went about 10 steps. The group is a 3 shot group at 700 yards with 1 through the middle. I have a load for it that I've yet to use. I dont have the reloading supplies. I was using Berger ammo 215 hybrids.

The ELD-X likes quite a bit of jump in my rifle.

This one works well in SAAMI chambered CA Ridgeline. I ran an OCW with RL26 and quickly found a really tight accuracy window between 73.8 and 74.2 grains. No pressure signs at 100°+.

I went with your suggestion for a load. I used the higher velocity load and worked it out. I figured if I didn't make out with the high fps load, I'd try the slower load. But NOW, I'm running into a dilemma.

I have my 300WinMag load finally all figured out. I have 1000's of primers but, I'm down to the last one pound of H1000. Now what?

Been shooting .5" or less groups at 100 yards. I'd assume if I had a muzzle brake on it and I was steadier it could do a little better.

Anyway, I need a good alternative to the H1000 that may be available. Any ideas?

You find some H-1000 and next time it is on the shelves you buy more than you think you will ever need. It's around, start searching till you find some. Call small shops, search the net, ask friends, see if anyone at the local gun club would sell some, etc.

I'll keep looking. This time I told my wife I'm buying as many 8 lb containers as I can possibly afford. I never want to be out again.

My supplier has just about everything always. He said it's been so hard to find. He said he has some one pounders on its way. Which I'll buy when he gets some in.

Oh yeah. I can find most all the IMR Endoron powders just about anywhere around here.

I'm doing some load development on my 308. I use IMR 4064 with great results in my 30- 06 and maybe will work for the 308. I'm working with CFE223, IMR 4064 and IMR 7166 so, we'll see how that turns out.

The 243 I've been using H414 and has served me well. I've been trying IMR 4064 in that as well with also great results.

I have so many different kinds of powders that I sold some and I am looking to change over to multiple guns using the same powder and buy a lot of 8 lb containers. So I always have on hand.
