300 PRC ONLY

I need your favorite accuracy loads. Please provide:

Bullet weight and Mfg.
Powder and charge in grains
Cartridge OAL, yes OAL (not to the ogive)
Primer
Brass Mfg.
Velocity
Barrel length
Freebore of your chamber
Comments on function, brass life, accuracy, temp stability, and bullet performance on game if you have it(please keep this data driven not emotional).

I am going to start working on compiling cartridge guides as I get time. Please only provide well vetted data. No I heard it from a friend who heard it from a friend...

If you want to include some kill photos with your rifle I may try to include a few in the guide.

I’ve spent last several months shooting my Christensen Arms ELR 300 PRC 26” 1-8 twist now and have around 600 rounds down the tube probably 80% of them have been chronographed maybe more.

A side from the 140rounds of factory Hornady ammo I broke it in with and start shooting with tell I had all my reloading components I’ve been using

-230 Berger’s
-Hornady brass-personally don’t like it at all I find it hard to get a good indication of pressure maybe it’s just me but good brass is much more consistent and easier for me to tell
-Mostly CCI 250’s(recently tried 215M with N570 load went backwards)
-I shoot 3 shot groups for ES-MOA

H1000 I loaded the least started at 71gr velocity 2600. 76.5 gr noticed ejector mark velocity 2872. Backed it off to 75.8gr - 2799fps pretty good accuracy 1/2-3/4MOA ES was more then I was after 20-30; COAL: 3.695

Reloader 26 shot this powder the most so far gun really seems to like it I started a little higher charge then you should but having just shot H1000 I compared velocity and charge weight in the Hornady load data and started at 71gr -2770fps. 73.5 gr got ejector mark and 2890fps. Backed down to 72.1gr 2798fps really good accuracy 1/4-1/2MOA ES 2-9; COAL: 3.698

Retumbo shot it a little more then H1000 but not much started at 72gr - 2701fps 77.5 - 2886fps ejector mark. Found best accuracy with 76.5gr - 2815fps 1/2 MOA ES 23-38; COAL:3.730

N570 started at 75gr - 2740fps stopped at 81.5 - 2970fps ejector mark. Load I went with here 80.2gr - 2880 1/2-3/4MOA ES 12
With this loaded from the mag I’m jumping .066 to the lands; COAL: 3.685

While using ogive measurements for your personal use is far more consistent for accuracy it is absolutely horrible for telling others your load because of the rather large variances in comparators. I have seen .040" between the same brand from one insert to the other of a same caliber.

I was hoping to see some loads with the 215g Hybrid. If you've got em - - - - please post.
Unfortunately my barrel hated 215s(my favorite bullet). Ive got a Gunwerks magnus and a Fierce Rival on the way. Both in 300 PRC. They are both most likely 3-4 months away.

I have a 300 PRC on the way from RBros in Washington. It is one of their Carbon Hunter models with a 26" Proof Sendero Carbon Fiber barrel Should get it next week and I can't wait to work up a load that will work well with either the 215 Hybrid or 210 VLD. I've got H1000 and N570 to feed it and will post what I learn.

Sorry Guys but I cleaned out a few posts that were leading off the OP's intent. This thread is a data gathering thread for 300 PRC rifles only. In the best interest of not getting a novice hurt, please stick strictly to the requested data in post one. There are other threads to discuss load data for derivatives.
And Thank you all for your participation.

Well I found something out yesterday about my setup. Aside from the reloader 26 load I’ve been sorta disappointed with how accurate my loads have been they haven’t been terrible but felt they should have been better. So I decided to check things over for the heck of it and found my scope rings Have been moving!! So the accuracy of loads above could be improved depending on how long they have been moving on me.

Maybe this isn’t the right thread to put this.

Shot some more of this load over the last week and average velocity ended up at 2907 fps, with an ES of 16 and an SD of 6. Accuracy has been consistent at 100 yards. Hoping to get out this weekend and shoot some distance!

215 Berger Hybrid Target
78.5 grains of H1000
3.715" +/- ~0.002"
FGM 215M
Hornady
2949 fps
26" Proof 1:9 twist carbon
Whatever proof does, its a factory pre-fit for TL3
I just shot this today, at 0.02 off the lands, and it shot 0.46 MOA on virgin brass. Extremely slight extractor cutout marks on TL3 action, but it is CRF and has done this on 2 other 28 Nosler barrels well below max published charge weights, so not too worried.

COAL 3.686 - - - - This is not a saami spec chamber. The throat was cut a little shallow to allow for chasing the lands.
The test target that Travis sent with the rifle was ridiculously small. My form is not good enough to replicate it.

ok. Maybe I just misunderstood. U ask in the beginning on the what your favorite PRC load was and I ask what powder shot best in the loads of 300 prc. Figured it was in the same line of question on favorite load talk of being data driven.

I don't want this thread to turn into a discussion like it is beginning to do because it will make it more difficult to sift through when I am ready to put the guide together. I do not think there will be a consensus on the best powder as there are several great powders for this case capacity.

215 Berger
ADG brass
CCI 250 mag primer
COL 3.682 Bullet base to tip. Measurement is with approx 22 th jump to lands
bullet pinch= .003th

JGS reamer with 200 th freebore-see print
defiance action
manners stock
24inch hawk hill barrel 10t plus 2 inch break. 26 overall length
HS precision detachable mag with clip

intial test started last week with H1000
reault are great
Started off at 75.5 on h1000.
Stopped at 78.5 with a speed of 2850fps.
no signs of any issues.

update— 79 gr saw pressure signs. Will go with 78.5. sub 1/2 easy on this load.

so far accuracy has no changes. Basically a hole at 100 yards.
ES is low below 12 on most but I’m not looking at that close right now due to barrel break In on first 20 round and the cleaning process I’ve used.

inital testing and working up. More data for this thread over the course of the weeks. As of now h1000 accuracy is spectacular at 100 yards. We shall see when we stretch is out. Thinking 75.5 to 80 gr is going to be a load

accurancy node we shall see.
will supply more data going forward cheers

attached are some files including JGS print that seems to be spot on for OL clip space of 3.7
20th jump and a bullet of 3.680 gave me enough clip clearance

after h1000 will try N570 or reloader 26 if I’m wanting to increase speed some.

N570 load data.
accuracy load 82 gr
Berger 215 22 th off land
2920 +/- FPS
ADG brass CCI 250 mag primer
.003 th bullet pinch
200 th freebore JGS reamer

started off at 78 gr other day working up in .5 increment 3 shots. All shots I believe u could have put under a nickel. No pressure signs thus far. Stopped at 82.5 gr. Not sure if I want to go any higher with a 24inch barrel. Any way thus far, early in test this I most accurate magnum I’ve owned and easiest to load for. Over next several weeks I plan to stretch it out maybe put to 1k.

going to test groups of H1000 vs N570 and see what it like at distance.
Below was today test load of N570 82 gr

hard to tell on ES because it africa HOT and I only have 3 shot string but
h1000 three shots were 2859,2849,2849 ES buy the caliculator was 6 I think

N570 3 shot group was 2920,2912,2910
ES 5.3

i could push the N570 more but no need with the length of barrel aNd what I seen.

N570 load data.
accuracy load 82 gr
Berger 215 22 th off land

going to test groups of H1000 vs N570 and see what it like at distance.
Below was today test load of N570 82 gr

Update—- Past weekend
N570 Powder will be the load going forward will. This seems to be the accuracy load for my rifle. alot of data still to be gathered but looks very promising and consistent.
82 gr pushing 215 Berger around 2915 FPS In a 24 inch Bbl
no pressure sighs. Data above is still same specs. Seems to be a mild load but good accuracy. went out to 1 k with a approx 8 inch group. I’ll never shoot at game that far but I just wanted to know my drop.
i shot various groups At various distances. . Attached is pictures of 500 & 700. Will repeat going forward onsteel. Shot and varied all dope at various ranges 100-1k. H1000 was just not quiet as consistent past 500 yards.
anyway, Past 700 I have found i need more practice. Trigger control and wind Calling. dam heartbeat Also gets in the way!!
round count on gun is 78

closing I’ll say this. I’m amazed at the JGS reamer and the tight tolerance they have.
cheers. Hope the accuracy load and data helps.

You do realize this is a thread on handloads, yes?

Maybe start a separate thread for "want to buy"...

New to the forum so will do my best to represent. Had to switch powders because I ran out of the powder (IMR 7977) that I was working up to a good load. I think this will be my go to powder in the end. Shooting Fierce Furry 1:9 twist barrel 24". Learned a lot from reading all of the great advise on the site. It allowed me to work the next powder change into the mix a lot quicker.

Fierce Furry 24" 1:9 twist Hornady 220 ELD-X bullet
Primer CCI 250
IMR 7828 SSC 71.0 GR - 74 GR.
COL 3.585 .07 Jump
100 yard target
71 GR Missed LR reading Good Accuracy
71 GR 2803 Good accuracy
72 GR 2828 Not accurate
72 GR 2845 Not accurate
73 GR 2877 Good accuracy
73 GR 2870 Good accuracy
74 GR 2920 Good accuracy heavy bolt lift
74 GR 2913 Good accuracy heavy bolt lift

Brass has about 3 cycles on it, neck sized the first two reloads and then bumped the shoulder on the third. No signs of trouble. First two loads were with IMR 7977 and third was with IMR 7828 SSC. Shot in about 50 degree weather so will update once it warms up (not sure on temperature stability). Haven't hunted with it yet and won't until the silencer get's here.

Will run another test this weekend between 73.2 -73.6

What chrono graph are you using? Did you mean to state 2985fps? Are you sure it is SAAMI? I have had 3 300PRC barrels and they were at very high pressure with 230s going upper 2800s.

Yes velocity was 2985. Saami chamber cut by carbon six, magnetospeed v3 on the chrono also used a labradar.

Hey Ryan, you started this thread a year ago and I’m wondering if you did write up an article as a result of the thread? I may have missed it, but with a new 300 PRC coming my way in a couple months, I’m anxious to read it! Have all the components stocked up now and want to be ready when the rifle arrives.
