Arrow specs….what are we all shooting? Happy with flight? Penetration?

Easton Axis 340 spine 26” C-C
X nocks
Blazer 3 fletch
50 grains brass up front
Annihilator 125
Dead on 15% FOC

72lbs draw weight for me at 27” out of my Mathews V3 27” is netting me 285fps. Love the flight and performance. Have had full pass throughs on 3 elk (33, 47, and 72 yards) and all but 1 deer. The high FOC allows the point weight to “pull” the arrow through the animal as opposed to try and “push” it through. Absolutely love the setup.

What’s yours?

I’m feeling lazy and not willing to grab my laptop with all the arrows and FOC percentages on it.

Most common arrow I’m running right now is the VAP TKO 50gr insert/outsert with 100 gr tip. Running a wrap and 3 Blazer Heat vanes puts me around 13%.

I am so out of it when it comes to my archery setups.

Can you explain (for me and others who might stumble upon this thread) how to determine your FOC percentage and also where you want to be or target it at?

FOC is your Front Of Center.

Effectively, it is the percentage of weight (balance point) for your arrow. A higher FOC will assist in "pulling" your broadhead through the animal, as well as straighter flight in wind. Too much weight towards the back of the arrow can cause the spine/shaft of your arrow to flex and cause the penetration path to deviate off of the impact vector.

Here is the Easton calculator and explanation as well. https://eastonarchery.com/2014/06/foc/

New Arrow This year.
Easton Match Grade 5mm 300 spine at 8.4gn inch, 27.25in = 228.9gns
Easton match grade Halfout 55gns
Easton X nock 9gns
AAE Airazor Pro vanes 4.3gn x3 =12.9
Broadhead will be 100gns.

TOTAL ARROW WEIGHT = 405.9
FOC= 17.31%

My elk hunting buddies in Oregon have killed over 100 bulls with this Arrow set up. Can't deny success!!

Virginia,
Used my Athlon chrono to check arrow speeds this morning. It's sensitive just make sure your shooting all shots from the same location as I did see a variance as I moved closer or further away. However the learning curve I expected.
Bow at 70lbs 29in draw
430gn Arrow= 295 fps
405.9 gn Arrow= 301fps

Another cool feature. You enter your Arrow weight and it gives your kinetic energy. Nice bonus!

Awesome stuff.

Arrow speeds was the first thing I did with my Garmin. 282fps with my 452 grain setup out of my Mathew’s V3 at 27” and 72lbs. She’s a speedy little thang. 😎

Check these speeds out. This is my old CPX INSANITY. The fastest is a 395gn arrow, then a 420gn arrow. I knew it was fast but not this smoking fast!

Yessir. That is certainly moving.

What I am seeing out of new bows is more efficiency with heavier arrows and maintaining high speeds. IBO ratings are with a lighter than hunting weight arrow and at 70lbs and 30” draw. Older bows would drop off pretty hard with shorter draws and heavier arrows. For a “space efficient” dude like me, at 5’10” and a 27” draw….newer bows rule!! 😎

I agree 100% on your assessment of new bows and maintaining speed with more efficiency. I'm only 5'9" and I'm shooting a 29in draw in my CP30 and 28.5 in my Insanity.
