Questions on Stocks:

What is your favorite aftermarket stock and why?
More specifically, what features make it your top choice?
How would your choice change if you wanted a lightweight stock? (Less than 30ozs)
How much does stock design play in felt recoil and spotting the shot?
Are flush cups the way of the future, or is there still a place for sling studs?
Does an integrated ARCA like the Fierce Rival XP 2.0 stock appeal to you?

How much does caliber play in your stock preferences? 6.5 CM vs 300 magnum+ for example.

Trying to better understand how folks make their choices to avoid buying and selling a few... I don't know about you all but I never make money selling.... LOL

Are you interested in a lightweight hunting stock or heavier long range stock/chassis?

Both, but also seeking to understand other’s preferences and perspectives on current trends in stocks.

Strong, light (28 oz or less), verticsl grip. Manners Eh1 is pretty close. But their now prohunter insets the forearm rail and ads an arco midships. Tough to beat. The stud in rear messes with rear rest.

I have been happy with MDT CRBN stocks for several of my rifles. But the Manners stocks would be excellent too.

Pure Precision Altitude stocks. At 5'6", 150lbs, everything fits! Have done several rifles with these now and like them better than anything else.
The Manners grip is too verticle for me and I do not care for their "thumb shelf". Its all about hand size, reach to trigger and not wanting the extra weight of an adjustable comb.
A rifle stock is like a pair of shoes, it's got to fit w/o fighting it or you'll never shoot it well.

Manners PH. Comfort, feel, weight, flush cups, pic rail for a bipod, ARCA in front of the bottom metal for an occasional tripod shot, texture, vertical grip, molded in color.

Hands down a great option for a long range stock to help manage recoil and spot shots. Spotting shots is important enough in long range work to want the features that give you the ability to do so.

I currently have hunting rifles with a few stocks, Manners PH, TS Customs KS1 (not sure who makes this for them), McMillan Game Warden, Foundation Gideon, XLR 4.0 Magnesium folder. I like all of them for different reasons. The common theme in all are straight or close to straight grips, palm swells that fit my hand, trigger reach that I am comfortable with, multiple QD cups, pic rail at the end of the forend, ARCA rail in front of the mag. They are all a little different but all have the basic features I want. As for as recoil management the Foundation is best, is it is also the heaviest by maybe 6 to 8 ounces. Worst is the XLR. I currently run a 25-06AI in the XLR for, me I would not run anything with more recoil impulse than that if shooting unbraked.

We have a video on YouTube covering this. You can check it out and if it doesn’t answer the questions as far as what I think about it, you can ask some more.

I found this video..
I am old school and prefer to read articles vs videos so I probably miss things like this when looking for info. :)
My initial take is that I am going to have get behind a few and try them to really make a decision..

I’ll try to turn my thoughts from that video into an article. I think with all of my time behind different Stocks you need to figure out if you like something like the McMillan A3/manners EH one or something more like a Gunwerks climber or McMillan Remington Hunter.

Time behind the gun is ideal. Multiple positions will really tell you what the stock prefers. Prone is only part of the picture.

I really like the looks and reviews you did on Gunwerks stocks, but would probably lean toward a Manners or MacMillan due to the cost. Be nice to see your favorites in price bands and by intended use. i.e, Backpack remote hunt with LR opportunities vs dedicated LR shooter

I will work on that. I can probably get something like that cranked out in an article a lot fast faster than a video. I’ll see what I can come up with.

Favorite is usually a well fitted Manners or McMillan for the balance of rigidity, cheek weld, and recoil handling.

Lightweight under 30 oz: carbon fiber options like the AG Composites or Proof Research stiff enough without the flexy feel of cheaper plastics.

Stock design matters a lot for felt recoil and spotting proper comb height, butt pad angle, and stiffness keep the rifle from jumping and let you see impacts.

Flush cups are cleaner and stronger for modern bipods tripods studs still work fine for simple hunting slings.

Integrated ARCA is nice if you run tripods a lot, otherwise it’s just extra weight.

Caliber does change it milder rounds like 6.5 CM can run lighter skinnier stocks big magnums need more mass and better recoil geometry.

I’ve become a fan of the negative comb design. I like the magnus . McMillian has one as well.

Who lives close to you? For me its as easy as asking; most the times there is the answer..."i know a guy."
Good point! Full Curl if you want to drive up to Wisconsin you can shoot all my stocks prone, seated, tripod out to 1,0000 and see what you like! 😉

Grs makes some comfortable adjustable stocks that we like, I'm a stock crawler so length of pull is a big deal and cheek weld is mandatory to shooting well so adjustable comb is also very important. The older GRS are quick to adjust
