A friend is looking to buy now and asked me which I would recommend. He said that the only reason he was considering the 300 PRC is because he could reach the lands and still fit loaded rounds in the internal box mag with the 215 berger.

Questions for you guys:

1) Have the PRC issues been resolved? If he were to get the 300 PRC can he expect to have no issues? Or should he plan on having to fix the known issues?
2) On the PRC, will he be able to reach the lands and still fit in the internal box mag without modifications?
3) Should he just go with the tried and true 300 win mag and have an internal wyatts box mag installed so he can reach the lands and still fit?

I am assuming based on his question that the 300 win mag is not set up with an internal box mag that will allow the 215 to reach the lands and still fit. Is that correct?

Thanks alot gentlemen, I figured if anyone knew the answers to these questions, it would be LRO!

Pretty sure I could load the 215 gr Berger to the lands in my Christensen Arms Ridgelines in both 300 win mag and 300 PRC and feed from the mag box. I don't have those rifles or log books anymore so maybe someone with one can collaborate on this. I have a thread on both somewhere on LRO so a quick search and research on them would help. I believe I commented on the internal mag box.

The PRCs will always have issues as long as they are chambered to SAAMI specs like all factory rifles will be. The fix is easy though.

My recommendation for anyone considering either the 300 PRC or the 300 win mag is to go with the 300 win mag. It has a long lengthy history with a lot of good info, components, load data, etc.

The 300 PRC clicker issue is still alive and well and will be for companies bound to using SAAMI spec reamers by their legal dept.

I have loaded many many CA 300 win mags with 215's and have never needed to install a longer mag box. The only reason anyone should consider the PRC would be for the 8 twist barrel offering. But for the 215's the 10 twist is fine even at sea level

One thing to add. He's going to want a good brake to go with that win mag.
