One I've learned the hard way: if you think your rifle is "good enough," shoot one more confirmation group before a hunt. A loose action screw, a bumped scope, or even a different lot of ammo can surprise you when it matters most. Five extra minutes at the range is a lot cheaper than wondering why a shot missed when the opportunity of the season was right in front of you.

Home sweet home! Here are the stats for the last 10 days.

The good news is my wife gets it now. She had never been to MT, my home state. She is already planning a trip in February “to see what winter is like.” The owner of my grandfathers ranch was kind enough to let us stop in and see it. She was was speechless. I think she gets it.

You need to get that average speed up! But I understand, I’ve never been in a hurry to get home from Montana either.

2 things I’ve never seen in Montana, compared to my home state, are a bad view or a dangerous part of town.
And I want a new residence. Bad.

I visited a member of a private forum I belong to while in MT. His posts were always of the highest quality. Like museum quality. When I visited him I was speechless. His gun room was better than any firearms museum I have ever visited. With out getting into details, I handled over a million dollars worth of firearms. I didn’t touch 90% of his collection. His house is a non descript house but the contents were OMFG! That one stop made my trip! His library was even more exclusive and historically important.

Next trip we will be shooting some of his collection!

Bringing home a new toy.
2009 Porsche 911 Carrera S Cabriolet 997.2 with the PDK transmission.

Towing this thing out of the NC mountains and through the WV mountains en route for Cleveland with the 5.0 F150 Tremor is going to be a good workout for it.

Going to be a great date car for Harmony and I…..and then the boys for prom cars. 😎

Very nice! Beautiful car.

One of my favorite cars, I should have never sold, was my 1970 914/6. It was brought into the states by Porsche for a celebrity race series. It had S cams and triple Webers. At WOT it was a symphony of wonderful sounds.

Had my first Dry Aged ribeye last weekend. It was dry aged 32 days and was wicked good. Now I am going down a dry aging rabbit hole. My sons dorm fridge has finally found a purpose!

Heading back to ID, MT for a few days visit, before Halloween, then coming back through SD for a pheasant hunt with the old fraternity bros.
Can’t wait to get done harvesting and go, I’ll NOT be excited to get back here after, though.

Hey guys, just a couple questions about the new "Hunting" section. Which is very cool by the way!
Since alot of the guys live where pigs are commonplace, (especially in Texas) can we get a section for "Hogs"?
And, would the "Africa and International" section be the place for US "Exotics"?

Also, someone please start a thread in the "Predator/Varmint" section since I can't figure out how to do it!
Thanks!!

My first outing this summer to shoot and waiting for the sun to come up. It’s already 77°F without the sun. I have a new to the USA rifle and a Seekins Havak PH3 plus this. It’s a game changer. IMG_5475.jpeg

I’ll be fronting a thread for these rifles soon then a quick intro YouTube video then a long term review. I’ll post up as usual.

Plus, I have one more rifle coming. Thought it should have been here by when I returned from Alaska but soon I guess. Tell ya about that one later.

I would put the exotics there for sure. If it blows up we will give it its own section.

Methinks major adjustment need to be made there…another decorator can be plan A. Plan B could be a little more complicated?

Started prepping hunting gear recently. Today I was sweating in 80s pulling bins for -20 hunts...crazy time of year. Fall hunts are starting but the temps are still high and humidity makes it miserable. I hope everyone is getting last minute items checked off and working on getting the body back in shape for the season.

Guns are shooting well. Weather has cooled off. Body is not good. Likely limited to hunting our company properties this year. I just hope the elk come down because the freezer is empty.

Empty freezer for us also. we have 1 month left of meat most likely with grilling season still in full swing. Winter time chili is in dire straits!

Safety first, had a couple of 33 nosler shells left and wanted to use them up so I could start on a fresh batch of shells. Usually take a bigger sxs or pickup, but this was just a quick trip out. Couldn't take a chance on anything falling out

Shot a practice round for a 1,000 yd competition this am. I would be shooting in FPR class with my rifle. Asked the guy running it if my score would be competitive. He said very. Looks like I am competing on Sunday. The 8 was my one sighted.

On my way back from Doc Warner’s out of Juneau after a long week of fishing. The salmon were scarce but the halibut were not. Landing in Vegas about midnight then I will take Sunday off. Well earned IMHO. IMG_1863.jpegIMG_5672.jpegIMG_5662.jpeg

Nice! Fishing in AK ain’t what it used to be. Especially in SC AK. I had no idea the good old days were actually the good old days.

I shot my first 1,000 yard FPR match Sunday. The winds were a PITA! But shooting 60 rounds plus sighters at 1,000 is super fun!

I tend to joke around a lot so when it was time to sight in I held up one round and said “This is the only sighter I need because it is going in the X.” That got some laughs. Then I shot it. The sounds changed quickly to a few swear words and a couple prayers. I looked at the target system and had center punched the X. lol. It went down hill from there but I still ended up in 3rd place.

I will definitely be doing more of this sport!

While fishing out of Juneau with Doc Warner’s last week, we came across a pod of Orcas. Very cool. Took some video and this pic was one of the clear ones. IMG_5713.png

I couldn’t help but think of that movie I saw as a kid, Orca. Then I didn’t want to get so close. Haha.

Time to call it. Me tired. Don't think I'll get up at 5:30 tomorrow to go shoot. Better mow the lawn. The wife likes a clean lawn. Then I'm picking up another dirt bike from a neighbor, I'm sort of hooked. Then I should get to editing the video on the Berger 217 gr EH. Lots of football on though. We'll see what gets done.

Shooting at the range today I met a guy who called bullshit that I could shoot .1’s with the Norma at 300. Bet him a nickel I could. Should have measured before I paid him. I only had some work up rounds so shot those.

Beat my P.B. yesterday.
I was told this last week that I would need to work Saturdays for the rest of the year. Kindof a bummer but whatever.
Since the wife was working and it was to be my last Saturday off, I wanted to do something different.
I loaded the kayak on top of the FJ and went to look for new sports to fish on a lake I hadn't been on in years.
It was getting late in the morning when I saw some trees sticking out of the water way out in the middle of the lake.
On the first drop this guy ate my bass bug and the fight was on.
I managed to get my phone out of the dry box and took four one-minute videos but the fight lasted over nine minutes.
I knew I couldn't get him up in the boat so these are the only photos I could get.
Up to now my biggest catfish was a 24.7.
This guy had to be close to forty!
On ten pound braid with a fifteen pound florocarbon leader.
I can't believe my knots held out!

Feels good to be out in elk country again. 5:40am and bulls are bugling below us as we wait for a hint of daylight.

Will the 217 gr Berger get a shot?

Oh, a pack of coyotes just went off.

When will it be light?

These are my thoughts at the moment.
