I will have one in my hands very soon and will immediately begin testing. I am excited to see how it stacks up. Ask any questions here and I will try to address them in the review and/or in this thread.

Big question of the day... will it beat out the NX8. My only complaint with NX8 is the parallax is touchy.

My question is why are so many people so excited about this scope? Other than a 50mm objective allowing the scope to be mounted lower on the rifle there really isn't much difference from the 5-25x56mm ATACR, its only 2oz. lighter. Looks like a nice scope but I think I would take the 5-25x56mm over this unless I had a rifle where I just had to have the scope lower to the bore of the rifle. Am I missing something? I love my ATACR's all 7 of them.

While it doesn't make that much sense to me either....I still want it. Damn you NF.

The 5~25 is my favorite scope so far. Bar none. But what I noticed when I was looking over the 4~20 F1 was this. It is a little lighter. And if you want an FFP this reticle is actually usable I think on lowest magnification. Is it as visible as a SFP? Heck no, but if I was going to run a FFP this one could be it. The other thing is some may like the added elevation, the new 4~20 has 130 moa. Plus over the NX8's the new 4~20 should be crisper and a slightly better image. Same glass, but longer tube to maximize resolution.

I think the answer to your question is the greater FOV that comes with a lower magnification setting at closer distances. 5’ or so at 100 yard may not sound like much, but in real world scenarios it can be the difference between staying in your scope to cover an objective versus looking over your scope. We saw this in operations and training. At long range there won’t be a hill of beans difference, but up close I value the greater FOV.

Any updates on the testing of this scope? Especially vs NX8

It is on my list of reviews to get out. The ATACR and the NX8 are two completely different scopes. If you don't mind the weight the ATACR is the way to go. The NX8 is a great scope when you need to shave some weight.

Related to this discussion of the new ATACR 4-20, I wonder why the older ATACR 4-16x42 F1 is not as popular as a long range hunting scope. The scope is nearly comparable to Leupold's popular Mark 5 3.6-18. Yes there are some differences, smaller objective, more weight, shorter magnification range, but for the ATACR line, the scope stands out as a smaller footprint and is the only one that has a zero hold, if that feature is important to you. I am curious about others first-hand experience with this optic and whether the new 4-20 is a better alternative for long range hunting or as a cross-over scope. thank you

I agree with your question vs the L scope(they still would hold zero) but I think 18x is stretching my lower limit and realistically would say 20x is a better lower limit for me. I hear people say 10x is "good enough" for 1k all the time. While that may be true I will sacrifice FOV for a more precise hold.

Just watched the video. Have a couple questions.

Does the eyepiece rotate when changing power?

Does the windage torrent have 1/2 turn stop like the 5-25x?

Very nice video review. Love it. The 4-20x50 ATACR looks like a nice option. I do enjoy my 5-25x56. I wonder if Nightforce will do one with a 50mm lens.
