Virginia,
This wasn't my kill but my Grandfather's. I was 4 or 5 in the photo. He hung it in his garage on a little basic antler plaque. When he passed my mom gave me the antlers and I had them mounted on the state of Oregon. He killed this west of Hines Oregon up by Emigrant Creek in the Silvies unit.

I've posted this before, but the only muledeer I've killed would fit inside this several times over. LOL

Tough hunt!
3 1/2 miles from the truck.
Wind blowing 25-40mph. Couldn't hardly stand up. Caught him in a coulee with two little bucks and two does. Shot him at 65 yds!

Helped my dad tag this buck. His last hunt and his biggest buck ever. Same year I took my best mule deer the next state over from his. His was a beautiful symmetrical 26” 4x4. Mine is a heavy 3x3 with cheaters and double eye guards in his left side. 31” inside spread. My dad’s scored in the 180s, mine in the 150s.DSCN0423.jpegDSCN0426.jpegIMG_6198.jpeg

Briscoe County N Texas, landowner friend wanted to take this out of the gene pool. He put up a feeder and a blind at about 200 yards away asking his friends who showed up during the short mule deer season to take this one out first. No success for 3 years. His guests harvested numerous feral hogs, but no muley bucks.

It hung out by the feeder at night, but never showed up during the day. Maybe it just doesn't want to compete with the feral hogs.

On the way back from CO with freezers full of elk meat from my first harvest, we went to his place to try our luck on this 2x2.

We stayed at the ranch house where we can see the feeder at 630 yards from the deck. No show at the feeder.

All morning I glassed the cliff behind the feeder, thinking maybe his bedding is in the vicinity.

After lunch I went back glassing, it gave me glimpse of the antlers then disappeared. I asked my buddy to put the spotter in the area I spotted the deer earlier. We both agreed uphill shot was 645 from both Leica Pros. Just in case it shows up, I dialed the elevation. Lo and behold after a few minutes it did show up right where the sunrays end facing broadside to the left.

The same rifle and ammo I used in CO, the round found its mark. My first mule deer buck. Not a thropy, but made the landowner happy. It was a memorable week. Got an elk on 4th season opening day in SW CO and got this on opening day in North TX.

Exit wound showing.

Not a Mule Deer per se, but my best Columbia Blacktail with a pistol. Can't find any photos of the others.
Remington XP-100 7mm BR 140gr Nosler Ballistic Tips. Killed seven in a row with this pistol.
Should have had this one mounted!

Me and my cousin on a hunt in the same area where hopefully this next week, I can find something that slightly resembles this guy ha ha. This was my cousins buck, and grossed 208 and change.

And here are a couple of my bigger bucks, I still haven't broke 180 yet personally though. Hoping to do that this year!

More about my dad's deer in post #16. If you walk up on a deer you think is dead and it looks like this, with his chin on the ground and the antlers straight up, better be ready to shoot because that deer is not dead.

We found that out as this buck got up and ran off like a herd of stampeding buffalo. My dad was able to get another shot off but not sure if it connected although in the 2nd pic it looks like it might have connected in a way as a running away shot would.

He was so disappointed thinking the biggest deer of his life just ran off. This buck was in a herd with two other decent bucks and when we saw them he handed me his rifle and said, "shoot one." I figured at that moment we needed to treat the situation logically.

We walked back to where he shot the deer. Analyzed what we could see then followed what we thought were his tracks. The buck veered to the right when we made our way to the left and saw the other bucks, just after that we were able to see the buck about 100 yards down a slope and it was definitely dead this time with one of his antlers lying in the bush and the buck on its side. My dad was so relieved.

The next day I had to take the next pic of our little camp with my dad's truck and trailer situated in a spot what will always be a special camp for me, our last hunt together.

Not the biggest but one of the best I have shot. Already screwed up and posted in the white tail thread by accident.
Will have to edit file later too large
