I’ll be doing this hunt in the first rifle season this year for elk.
Colorado GMU 83, out of San Luis area and heading up and into the Culebra Range. Base camp at about 7,500, and the area will peak out right at 10,000.
Has anyone hunted this unit, or done a hunt with Kiowa? Would love to hear some info if you have it, both for myself, and the 3 customers I am taking.
Thanks!!

I drove to Colorado from Virginia 2014, 2016 saw bulls both trips. 2014 no shot but tracked bull in snow for 4hrs and learned a ton. 2016 second day was scouting a new area and killed a 6X6, 359yrd shot 7mm rem mag Factory HSM 168 Bergers. Both trips were second season. Now I did grow up in elk country as a kid and elk hunted, so I kinda felt right at home in Colorado.

We will be just about the same. Rifle season, first week of November this year out there and driving trucks out of Ohio for about 24 hours total.
I’ve done 6 elk trips, but for 2 of my customers I am bringing on this one it will be their first.

They will be in awe of the land and how vastly different it is out west but they will have a great time. I did a euro mount of the bull. IMG_20210306_072739689.jpg

Very nice. I Euro all of mine with a back plate that I make out of steel cut in the shape of the state. I always punch it out with a hole (or broadhead shape) for where it was shot, and then burn in the date and distance.
This one is my favorite that I call Frankenbull, with his one side literally growing out of the side of his head. There were pretty bulls that I sawin Piñon NM....but once I saw him I had to have him as I love the non-typicals.

That's awesome. I have a pic of a bull a friend from high school killed that looks very similar to that one. Amazing how they grow antlers like that.
