I have followed LRO for quite some time, and I have learned quite a bit here. I have also hit up @Broz, @FURMAN, @Ernie, and @Kimber7man for info for years on other forums. I finally figured it was time that I registered so I could click on thumbnail photos and actually view the load data.
I grew up in Idaho but I currently live in West Virginia. I make it back out West from time to time, but I mainly shoot squirrels, whitetail does, and an occasional black bear now. I have always liked 30 cal magnums and I have used 300 WSM, 300 WM, 300 Wby, 30 Nosler, and 300 RUM on game with bullets between 124 gr and 230 gr. 124 gr Hammer Hunters really take the sting off the shoulder with a 300 RUM. I also have used a 338 LM with 300 gr Bergers. However, I am becoming a recoil/muzzle blast weenie and I am now mostly shooting a 6.5 CM and a 280 AI (both unbraked). I am looking hard at a fast 25.
I think ālong rangeā is relative to the gun used, and this year, ālong rangeā might be 200 yards with my Shiloh Sharps in 45-70. I suspect it will be much closer than that.
