Jeff what is the problem? is it gag reflex, tongue pressure for sounds, placement, ect. Paul Medel from Elknuts outdoor production has some great video on how to use a diaphragm call. he discusses sizes and placement in the mouth as well as how to make the different sounds.

The roof of my mouth is the problem I think. I just struggle and have at least a dozen I can not use. I will look at the video's. Thanks

They make a small or narrow diaphragm that may help. Paul discusses this. He has a lot of archived videos on Wapititalk.com.

Hey Broz,
I have been pulling tremendous knowledge off the forum and now it’s my turn to help.
My buddies and I have been using a mouth call designed by Larry Jones of Oregon fame since the 90’s.
I trim mine to fit the roof of my mouth. It just sits there without your tongue touching it. Here’s a link for it.

Rocky Mountain hunting calls used to sell a variety pack of 3 calls. A small, medium, and large. I think the size of the call itself is really important to ensure a good seal. I’d recommend trying some different sizes to see what fits you best. Good luck!

I had lots of troubles with these type of calls also. When the Primus came out with the tab on top it was better for me but now the Phelps is my preferred choice and the other is the BRO version
I tried the mini type and it didn't work for me

You really need the ones that half the aluminum half dome on the top to help keep the reed in place. I like Phelps. The grey amp is easy to use.
