Happy Sunday

About 4 years ago I picked up the BOG Deathgrip aluminum tripod the night before a pronghorn hunt. I was tired of missed opportunities due to tall sagebrush while trying to shoot prone. After the hunt it proved its value and became a permanent addition to the side of my pack frame for everything from pronghorn to elk. A cumbersome, unbalanced 8.5# addition that is annoying every moment it's with me until its put to use. I love everything about hunting with a tripod other than this one lacks the motion of a ball head and it's heavy.

I saw the Great Divide tripod set up in a corner of a shop the other day. It's packaging listed it at 3.5# and its price seemed very low, like don't leave the store without it low. It too lacks the ball head but the Great Divide head provides the same type of range of motion. It seems like a tripod more suited for glassing or camera work but it has a v-rest for shooting and its weight for the price make it hard to ignore. Does anyone here have experience hunting with this tripod?

If you use them a lot they don’t seem to hold up. My coyote hunting partner has worn out 2 BOGs in 18 months. Granted we hunt hard, but my leofoto has held up perfectly. For a low use it’s probably fine, but I personally wouldn’t want to risk missing a game animal because I skimped on a tripod. I’d also consider one with a saddle or arca clamp

Thank you for your response. Perhaps I fit into the light hunter category.

The other issue I think for him was he always carried his tripod with the rifle locked on. And it probably puts to much stress on it. There’s def other tripods that’s aren’t 500+ that are probably a lot more durable tho. Maybe I’m different, but if I’m going on an expensive hunt or one I won’t get to do often I do everything possible to not have a gear failure ruin it because I was tripping over a dollar to save a dime

I think steady stiks or bump up to Arca Plate model.
