What are the thoughts and consensus on use of creatine for strength and endurance ? If you use it what is your dosing ?

It's been studied a lot! I take 5 grams of creatine monohydrate daily.

Broz, it can be a bit straining on the liver over time, but 5 grams a day “shouldn’t” be too bad. You would definitely notice water weight retention around the waist unless doing intense weight training and watching your diet. It does help us folks getting older around joint, tendon, and ligament degenerative weakness, but since it can make muscles stronger, it offsets the other improvement some. In older age, my recommendation is to do some sort of collagen intake daily over creatine. Much better option for the growing aches, pains, and creaks of older age and what that does to reduced body mass and strength over time. Trust me. I definitely know.

Creatine has been a game changer. Too many positive effects to write it all out. Mental cognition, energy level…etc. only negative side effect I’ve had is it causes muscle cramps if I don’t drink 60oz of water a day. I cycle for 60 days and take a week off. On days that I’m drained for energy or got really bad sleep I take 8-10grams. Really helps.

I use Thorne creatine and wilderness athlete brand collagen. I haven’t noticed water retention. We’ve been hunting sheep (AK), deer and elk in 3 states since August almost non stop and think that the conditioning I do throughout the year is the game changer. I do feel a little benefit from the supplements but don’t seem to feel any dramatic effects that some do. Lutein however is a supplement in which the benefit has been noticeable for me. My vision is noticeably sharper…….at least I perceive it to be.

For the collagen, we use equi.life brand. Seems to do very well. For creatine, I've been out of that game for at least 15 years or so, so I'm not sure what to recommend there. Back in the day, I used to use GNC's creatine powder. Short of some adders that may be put in them today, back then, it was 100% creatine powder, so I'm not sure it would matter if picking that style.

The benefits of creatine powder can be summed up as a heavily neutered steroid. It really is quite amazing. I just don't know how much it pulls off of our long-term health, if any. Even in my older age, if I were racing carts or cars for fun on the side, I would definitely be taking it in moderation for quick twitch improvement.

Costco sells the Orgain brand of creatine. Very affordable and good quality. Creatine is arguably the most studied supplement ever. Decades of research that is still ongoing. Yes, it is safe and too many benefits to list as stated above, including cognitive. I have not had the water retention experience that others do and it does not necessarily add “bulk.” It helps with muscle endurance so your benefit will depend on the type of exercise and training that you do. I prefer the 0.05 grams per 1 kilogram of body mass for dosing. Makes more sense to me than the blanket 5 gr for everyone. A 180 pound dude would then take 4 grams daily.

I buy creatine as well as some mushroom powders from bulksupplements.com. I’ve decided to do this mostly after hearing about the mental benefits.

Thorne does have some great stuff (I take their aminos) but it is much more costly.

Pure encapsulations is also another great company.

Is the Lutein from wilderness athlete? I believe they have a supplement for vision that I've heard of.

I was told a long time ago to seek out Creapure labeled creatine as it is (was?) the best, most pure, form available.

I take Nutricost Creapure brand of creatine before I go to bed every day. Even on non workout days. 5-7 grams. There have been some studies that say not to take it within a few hours of consuming caffeine. There is a ton of info out there. If you have any health concerns maybe talk to your doctor for guidance.

I have been using creatine monohydrate for a while now, and I get mine from https://supplements4muscle.com/en/32_amix because the quality is solid and it mixes well. That dosing tip based on body weight makes sense, and I also stay on top of water to avoid cramps. For brands, I stick with what works and keep it simple.

I'll be 64 soon, in preparation for a mid August Safari in Zimbabwe I began training last spring, in July I cut and limbed 14 water oak, hickory and post oak trees for this seasons firewood out at the farm, took a tractor and chain and drug them up in rows side by side, used a Stihl MS261 Pro saw to cut into blocks for splitting.

Used Fiskars 8LB maul along with Fiskars high speed 36" axe with wedges to hand split the wood then throw into long piles for seasoning out over six months then loading onto trailer this fall to haul home.

I used and still daily use 5mgs 1stPhorm creatine along with Sports Research Hydrate electrolytes cherry pomegranate flavor, one very hot day I spent 10 hours on the maul and wedges, went through two gallons of liquids, one straight water, the other electrolytes, no way in hells half acre I could have completed that day without Creatine and Electrolytes, they would have found me dead in a woodpile, the cramps alone would kill a good man.

It made the 150 miles I walked on Safari carrying a 10.5 double rifle and an 11 pound scoped bolt rifle trailing bull Elephant and an old Dugga boy buffalo a walk in the park.

Creatine can cause higher creatinine levels, these levels are measured to determine kidney function. If you take it I would advise your doctor so she/he is aware, I am not a health care professional but my doctor has me come off it for about 3 weeks to confirm kidneys are functioning normally. I have really noticed my shoulder joint pain is pretty much nonexistent when taking 5g per day and I’m not as sore after heavy physical exertion. I use Transparent labs brand.
