finished shooting the 5 boxes of factory 175eldx today. That gives me 100 down the barrel and gonna start load development. Shots 1-50 avg around 2905 f/s. Barrel sped up around 60-100 to 2958.
Looking forward to trying some 180 Eldms or 184 hybrids.

I got my hands on a 175 Berger. If you have one or two specific bullets in mind I would probably get it custom throated. I would find a smith that will do what you want. The best way is with a dummy.

Very nice!!! That is moving for a 195!! I'm at 3125 on my 28N with the 180VLD's out of a 26" 1:9. 180's, you would probably end up right at or just below where I am with the Nosler.
Impressed and intrigued.....as could the barrel life be longer with the PRC. Time will tell.....

Its an option for those want to shoot the heaviest in the 7 PRC. I will most likely switch to the 175 or 180 when the carbon wrapped barrels come in. 1) 22- inch for the suppressor and 2) a 26-inch Benchmark to try out. The barrel I have now is a tank and handles the 195 gr Berger nicely. Time to verify drops at distance, which is the fun part.

I will throw out this caution about my load above and RCC Brass. I see signs of case head separation in 5x brass and I just barely bumped the shoulder back for the first time after 4x.

I see the 7PRC as being a very viable option in Lou of the 300wsm. Probably fewer feeding issues ? Nice work Ladd. I hope you see an end to the brass issue

I have Hornady ammo I can salvage the brass from plus I pre-ordered brass due out next month, maybe.

That's pretty good speeds with that powder. Maybe I missed it but 26 inch barrel hornady brass?

How's the Hornady brass holding up?
Shot 100 of the factory 175eldx then used the brass. Only first 40 reloaded so far so too early to tell. I’m sure pockets will be done quick if running higher pressures if anything like 300 prc brass

Like Ryan mentioned I found a huge node on the lower node around 2890 that I just could not ignore. Gonna stick there for now because all I have is Hornady brass and don't want to blow primer pockets after 3 shots.

I would be happy with 190 berger at 2850 to 2900 in 26 inch barrel.

Have you tried this load w the 215m primer? I thought that the 6.5 was the only PRC round that didn’t need a magnum but dont have my 7 prc in hand yet to test. Curious if magnum would be better per info I’ve read.

Anything over 55 ish grains of powder needs tested for both magnum and non magnum. Just because one persons rifle likes one primer doesn’t mean yours will. So far in my testing the 7 PRC prefers cci 250s and 210ms. You also can’t just swap them out the full tests needs redone with each primer. I would not suggest doing this unless you are unhappy with the load you started with.

First shots in the new 7 prc factory ammo 180 eldm. Avg speed was 2957 26 inch barrel. That group was 14 plus shots suppressed and a few with the brake. Pretty happy with the PVA prefit so far. Put 40 rounds down barrel today going to play with some handloads with n565 and 190 berger. I did resize some and primer a few wasn't to thrilled how the primer felt already. At the .200 line measured these are just the last numbers number 31 to 315 fired and sized 305 worried it might not be enough but we will see

Late to the party but ordered a barrel last week... 28” heavy varmint. Went with the SAAMI chamber but had heartburn about it and told him I’d send in a dummy round instead. I’m thinking about running the 184s, 190 LRHTs or the 195s and dummy round for it. This will be a mostly range gun that might be backup this year on a deer or black bear hunt so I’m not worried about hunting vs target bullet but have had good success w berger hybrids on game regardless.

I can pick up 190s for cheap right now in any quantity I want so I’m kind of leaning that way but any recommendations on which round you’d recommend for the dummy round?

Was thinking about the A-tips but decided against them.

I’ll save at least most of my 180s for the 280AI and 284 Win.

This will be the first time I’ve gone the way of sending in a dummy round so any advice on how to go about it would be much appreciated.

Thanks,

Aaron.

@ABC1000

Are you worried about them being to long? I just loaded some up last night with the 190 bergers. I have a pva prefit barrel and my lands I measured was 3.445 and seemed perfect to me with the bottom of the bullet around the shoulder of the case I have seen that other people had them longer

I would use SAAMI. It works nearly perfectly for the larger 7mm bullets.

So do you think there’s nothing to be gained by targeting an exact bullet profile?

That’s not it works. The leade angle won’t change. The freebore is what will change and the factory freebore is good.

Guys we really appreciate the information but we really need to keep the thread about proven loads and start individual threads as the OP states. See the OP #1.

It is very welcome but we need to separate testing from tested.

Is the amount that the bearing surface on the 195s is engaged in the case when near the lands enough for a rifle with a magazine? And if I want to seat it .050" off the lands to increase the engagement going to annihilate my accuracy? I know you say SAAMI is great for the heavies, but it seems like there's very little pressed in.

The answer to the first question is yes. The answer to the second question is seating depth has an often large affect on accuracy and seating depth testing needs to be done.

Well I can't wait to try it. That was a dumb question about the seating depth... of course it affects it. Thanks for not roasting me.

Ladd, is this with a SAAMI reamer? Or custom freebore?

We are here to help. I’m not sure about Ladd’s but my SAAMI chamber had 195s touching at 3.541”.

SAAMI for the most part but chambered with the JGS AW2 reamer.
