We hunted with Jason with Alberta Hunting Company for the first time as an LRO group in 2024. We tagged several good bear and had a great time. Shooting from a tree stand or ground blind at close range or a ground blind at long range. Long range was only 300-400 yards and was limited because of the bush but fun nonetheless. Here are pics from both trips.
My only bear in 2024 was a good boar at 300 yards. We went again as group of friends and clients in 2026. I took clients for client appreciation from a change from fishing in Alaska and it was a hit. One bear I shot at 300 yards with the 217 gr Berger, video review soon to be released, and another from a tree stand with my .45-70. Which one was more fun? Both were but I think the edge goes to the one close range from a treestand. The bear is close, you don't hear them coming until you see it and once there was one under my tree coming from behind. It scared me and I scared it when I turned around to see this bear under the tree and slightly behind me.
Next time, Jason is hoping to get me into a ground blind up close. Not sure I'm brave enough but we'll see. Not sure I can manage it next year because it is the week before I leave for South Africa but we'll see.
How would you like to hunt black bear? Spot and stalk, ground blind or tree stand? Alberta Hunting Company is a great place to book with. Jason is an outstanding outfitter and Alberta's #1 taxidermist. He will be splitting his camp into two, one in the northern area and the one in the south. The northern area will cater to serious hunters looking for a challange and not just to fill their tag. His camp will not be far from where @Broz tagged his big bear from a ground blind as well as the one Chris shot this year. Both 400 lb bears with Chris's edging out any other bear taken with Jason, according to Jason. Both awesome bears.
